C is for Cyndislist

Continuing the Family History through the alphabet challenge, C is for Cyndislist. Cyndislist is a free comprehensive, categorized & cross-referenced list of links that point you to genealogical research sites online, as described on the website. The site has been around for over 15 years and a year or two back had an over haul. It is managed by essentially one woman based in Washington State, USA.

If you do not know where to start when you finally discover that your ancestor went to South Africa following the Western Australian gold rush – where to go from here? Have a look at Cyndistlist. The site can be used in a number of ways. Search by the Google custom search box on the top right hand side. The results list will also include results from Google, but just scroll down for the results within the site first. You can also browse by the categories link or via the letter of the alphabet. Subjects include a number beside the heading indicating how many links are included under that heading. Subjects will then be divided by sub categories. Countries for example will then be divided by headings such as birth, marriage, death , history & culture or military. Cyndi is usually pretty consistent with the use of these headings. You can also browse new links, nominate a new site to be listed, you can also report a broken link.
