Google has recently launched its newspaper archive online. It draws on all sorts of resources, mostly free, but some are subject to subscription fees. This is an ongoing project with discussions with the National Library of Australia for Australian content. (Source: Incite November 2008)
In the meantime bookmark Australian Newspapers Beta which has already significantly increased access to "The Argus" since its launch a few months ago.
